Escape Room with Children

28.2.2025 | Hämeenlinna (in English)

We are often asked the following questions:

  • Can we play an escape room with children?
  • Which games are best suited for playing with children?

The short answer: Yes, you can! And technically, you can play any of our rooms. Below is a more detailed explanation.

How to Choose the Right Escape Room for Playing with Kids? 🔍

Playing escape rooms with children is incredibly fun! Kids often excel in escape rooms because their thinking is more open-minded and less rigid than that of adults. They are also great at exploring, searching, and finding hidden clues and objects. 🔑

We offer four different escape rooms:

  • Frozen Forest (children’s escape room)
  • Destiny of the Knight
  • The Witch Brothers
  • Viking Exhibition

Frozen Forest

Frozen Forest is designed for elementary school-aged children. The game is structured so that kids can solve it independently without adult players. The game master stays nearby to assist if needed and ensures the game is completed within the one-hour time limit. Frozen Forest is an excellent choice for a child’s first escape room experience or a family’s first escape game together. However, it’s important to remember that the room is designed for children, meaning the kids should take the lead in solving puzzles. Adults will need some self-restraint to avoid taking over the game and instead let the kids progress at their own pace. 😉

Knight’s Destiny

If you’ve already played a few escape rooms before, we recommend Knight’s Destiny as your next choice. It is the most straightforward of our adult escape rooms and has a theme suitable for children. The main difference between adult and children’s escape rooms is that in adult games, we cannot guarantee that the one-hour time limit will always be enough to complete the game. However, our game masters provide hints when necessary to prevent players from getting stuck on a single puzzle for too long.

The Witch Brothers

The Witch Brothers is the only escape room we have with a recommended age rating of 12+. The game takes place in a medieval prison with a dim and eerie atmosphere, which may be too intense for more sensitive children or first-time players. However, if your family has played escape rooms before and enjoys a bit of suspense, The Witch Brothers can be a truly unforgettable experience. Many children have played this room, and while we don’t prohibit kids from entering with adults, the final decision is up to the guardians. 😊

Viking Exhibition

Viking Exhibition is our most challenging adult escape room. If your family has played multiple escape rooms and enjoys a good challenge, this might be a great choice. The difficulty comes from the large number of tasks and puzzles within the game. If you enjoy dividing tasks among team members or solving puzzles in smaller groups, you’ll likely love Viking Exhibition. This room is also our most spacious, making it a great option for larger groups of 5–7 players.

What to Consider When Choosing an Escape Room?

When selecting a game, keep these factors in mind:

  • Players’ ages: Younger children should start with the easiest room, while older kids can handle most games. Reading skills are important for escape rooms. At Getaway, all players under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Previous experience: First-timers should begin with a children’s game and progress from easier to more difficult rooms. Experienced players can choose based on personal preference.
  • Group size: Maximum player limits vary between games, so be sure to check the details of each escape room.
  • Age recommendations: Some rooms have suggested age limits, so always verify these beforehand.
  • Theme and story interest: If you’ve played a few rooms before, choose one that sounds most exciting to your group.

Keeping these points in mind, you’ll surely find the perfect escape room for your team! If you still have questions about playing with children, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re happy to help. 🧡
